Ah, August.
Why are you still so humid? Why are you sunny enough to burn and still lashing rain? Mostly, why are you so humid?
In other news, I shaved my head. It’s an excellent way to deal with the humidity, admire the shape of one’s skull, and avoid the hairdresser.
Writing Update
Faehunter is in Draft…3 or 4. A few sections have been rewritten so it’s a bit of a Schrödinger’s draft situation in there. I’m happier with it every time I run through and very pleased by the progress overall.
(Psst. Why are writers always cold? Because they’re surrounded by drafts.)
Madame Cutpurse has expanded by a few thousand words and, more importantly, by outlining the last two thirds. Extant has also grown by a few hundred words, and now includes something of a story outline. The pre-writing came to around 500 words, and I’m thinking it will finish at between 15,000 – 20,000 words.
(I want to get over 17,000 so that I can call it a Novella, but we shall see.)

Delights of August
The mead from June turned out to be neither undrinkable nor toxic, much to my absolute delight. I have been advised to Bottle It and Leave it Alone. These are my favorite things to do, particularly with emotions, but mead works too. I plan to try it in August next year and see what time does to the flavour.
I made cider. Don’t make cider. Cider is a problem and smells like rhino farts if you don’t get everything Just So.
In baking related news, I managed to perfect a recipe for chewy cookies. Brown sugar, an extra egg yolk (but only the yolk), and making them into a little ball that collapses as they bake. All three factors seem essential for getting the optimum crunch-to-chew texture, as well as baking them for 20 minutes.
Whether or not the cookie dough can cook from frozen, as claimed by the internet, is a test for another day.
Yours,
Elmswood <3
