Welcome to the May update!
I’m delighted to lead with a writing update: Draft 1.5 of Faehunter is complete!
The manuscript currently stands at around 60,000 words, some recycled from previous drafts but overall freshly written. Now it needs to rest, like a slow-cooked pork shoulder. And frankly, so do I. However, there’s no rest for the wicked, only short naps.
My plan is to work on short stories for a week and then return to Faehunter with fresh eyes.
In addition, one of my very old WIPs has resurrected itself during the lockdown. Tentatively titled ‘the heart of a thief’, this one has undergone around 30,000 words worth of pre-writing and multiple drafts. Having sunk about 5000 words into it’s current form, I’m aiming at writing this while editing Faehunter so as to avoid Brain Squiggles. The current goal for it is to come out closer to novella length, although if the story blooms further we shall take it from there.

Food Update
In non-writing news, I’ve managed to perfect a few recipes that could appear in future books. One of these is a lemon cake recipe, which I may post here I’ve ascertained the correct measurements in grams rather than the traditional method of throwing everything in and stirring till it looks right.
The other is pulled pork. As I am not a huge carnivore I was initially hesitant to try these recipe, however I’ve been converted by the versatility of the dish.
This, of course, means I have to taste test everything for research purposes. Tragic.
(If I’ve discovered one thing this year its that food is delicious and I love it, and cooking things from scratch is great when you have the time.)
I hope to continue updating every other month. Until then, keep safe and take care of one another!
Yours,
Elmswood <3
